Spice is the Gulf's mother tongue in fragrance. Saffron, cardamom, cinnamon and pepper have anchored amber perfumery since they first travelled the ancient spice routes from East to West, and the modern counters simply put that history in a bottle at very different prices. The Best Spicy Perfumes and Their MOJ Versions

1. Saffron Crystal

Crystal Saffron (2022, perfumer Aurelien Guichard) comes from Matiere Premiere, the French house Guichard founded on one rule: one hero ingredient per fragrance, dosed high. Here it is real Greek saffron from Kozani over Somali incense, landing on white musk and Ambroxan; minimalism with a spice cellar behind it, at about AED 1,160 per 100ml in the UAE.

2. Khamrah

Khamrah follows one of the region's most talked-about gourmands of recent years, and its spice credentials open the bottle: cinnamon and nutmeg before the dates and praline arrive, with myrrh and amberwood in the base. Dessert with a spice rack, and the friendliest price in this guide.

3. You Tobacco

Stronger With You Tobacco (2024) is the spiciest thing the Armani counter has done in years: pink and black pepper with cardamom up top, then a heart of tobacco, chestnut, cinnamon leaf and actual chili pepper, cooled by bourbon vanilla and benzoin. AED 550 per 100ml in the UAE, and the newest original in this guide.

4. Intoxicated

Intoxicated (2014, credited to perfumer Calice Becker) launched in Kilian's Addictive State of Mind collection with one idea: Turkish coffee as perfume. Cardamom and coffee up top, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger in the heart, caramel and mocha underneath. In the UAE the original runs AED 1,140 for just 50ml, which makes it the most expensive spice-per-millilitre in this guide.

5. Epic M

Epic Man (2009) is Amouage's Silk Road story, and its opening reads like a spice caravan manifest: pink pepper, saffron, nutmeg, cardamom, caraway and mace over myrrh, landing on incense, oud and leather. Amouage states a 23 percent oil concentration aged for six weeks, which explains both the endurance and the AED 1,550 per 100ml.

6. Enclave

Enclave (2020, perfumer Julien Rasquinet) files its spices under fresh: spearmint next to cardamom, pink pepper and cinnamon, over frankincense and rose, finishing on amber, labdanum and leather. Written for the Musandam fjords of Oman and sold at AED 1,550 per 100ml in the UAE.

7. Halfeti SH

Halfeti (2015, perfumer Christian Provenzano) is Penhaligon's tribute to the Turkish town on the Euphrates whose roses grow so darkly red they appear black: saffron, cardamom and pink pepper over that rose with nutmeg and coffee, on an oud, leather and amber base. AED 1,140 per 100ml at UAE retailers.

8. Althayr

Althair (2023, perfumer Hamid Merati-Kashani) opens on cinnamon and cardamom before its famous Bourbon vanilla takes over, with praline and guaiac wood closing. Parfums de Marly's biggest launch of its year proves spice and sweetness are a partnership, not a rivalry, at AED 1,490 per 125ml.

9. Gentleman

Gentleman Eau de Parfum (2018), not to be confused with the 1974 original, rebuilt Givenchy's classic around a pepper-iris handshake: black pepper and lavender up top, orris with cloves and cinnamon in the heart, black vanilla and tolu balsam underneath. AED 557 per 100ml in the UAE.
