Here is the part most perfume guides get backwards: Arabic perfumery is not a genre inside the fragrance world, it is the foundation under it. Oud smoke, luban resin, saffron, musk and amber moved through Arabia's incense routes for centuries before a single French maison existed, and when Paris wanted a name for its warmest accord, it borrowed ours: amber, from the Arabic anbar. MOJ was born in Oman, the land of frankincense, so this guide is written from inside the tradition, not looking in. Five picks below are our own original creations on Arabic pillars; five interpret the icons others built on the same foundations. All of it lives in our Arabic perfumes collection, from AED 26.

1. Khanjar

Khanjar carries the name of the curved Omani dagger worn as a mark of honour, and wears like one: spicy saffron and rich rose over smoky oud and leather, settling into amber and musk. It is a MOJ original creation, our flagship Arabic composition, made for those who wield power with elegance.

2. Saffron Oud

Saffron Oud is Arabic perfumery in its shortest sentence: the world's most precious spice meeting its most precious wood, warmed with nutmeg and amber. A MOJ original with no shortcuts and no detours, and at AED 26 for 30ml, the friendliest doorway into the entire genre.

3. Luban

Luban is the Arabic name for frankincense, the resin that made southern Arabia rich two thousand years before oil did, and the scent of every Gulf home that has ever lit a burner. Our original opens with that smoky resin and bergamot, warms through cardamom and myrrh, and rests on amber, oud and sandalwood: ancient luxury, bottled.

4. Oud Royal

Oud Royal is our deep Arabian statement: rich oud and warm spices opening onto smooth amber and rose, with a base of smoky woods and soft powder. Where Saffron Oud introduces the genre, this one graduates you, at a price that stays polite.

5. Man Musk

Man Musk is built on musk rijali, the clean, dry masculine musk the Gulf has worn for generations, sharpened with cedarwood and grounded in earthy patchouli. A MOJ original, not an interpretation of any existing brand, and engineered for this climate all year round.

6. Oud Ulya

Oud Ulya (2021, perfumer Cecile Zarokian) is Amouage's attar, a 100 percent pure perfume oil in the oldest Arabic format there is: Assam oud and birch tar smoothed with vanilla, deepened with animalic shadows. The original costs AED 2,280 for 12ml of oil and is often unavailable at UAE luxury retailers, which tells you everything about demand.

7. Oud Isphahan A

Oud Ispahan (2012, perfumer Francois Demachy) is what happens when Paris writes an Arabic love letter: Damascus rose and saffron wrapped in labdanum over oud and sandalwood, the modern reference for the region's oldest triangle, at around AED 2,000 per 200ml at Dior's UAE boutiques.

8. Cherry Oud

Cherry Oud (2022, perfumer Delphine Jelk) is Guerlain's take on the modern Arabic sweet tooth: cherry brightened with cinnamon and cardamom over Turkish and Bulgarian rose, dried down through oud and leather. It sells for AED 1,490 per 100ml in the UAE and has become the reference for the cherry-oud pairing everyone now copies.

9. Khamrah

Khamrah follows the style of one of the region's most talked-about gourmands of recent years: dates, praline and tuberose under a cinnamon and nutmeg opening, finished with vanilla, amberwood and myrrh. 10. Wild Colt

Wild Colt follows a cult 2022 release from a Saudi house, written for the Najd desert and Arabian horses: saffron and grapefruit charging over leather and labdanum into an ambergris and oakmoss base. It closes this guide the way the region's story deserves: not with an interpretation of Paris, but with the new wave of Arabic houses being interpreted themselves.

How to Wear Arabic Perfume

Arabic perfumery rewards a different technique than western sprays: fewer sprays, warmer skin, more patience. These are base-heavy compositions built to bloom over hours, so two sprays on the chest under clothing will outlast eight on a shirt collar. Layering is native to the tradition too; Luban under Oud Royal, or Man Musk under almost anything, is how the Gulf has always built a signature.
