Where to Buy the Best Perfumes in the UAE

Article Summary: There are six kinds of perfume shop in the UAE and they sell different things. Department-store counters and brand boutiques sell designer and niche at list price with a guarantee of origin. Dubai Duty Free sells the same bottles airside. The Deira perfume souk sells oud oil, attar and bakhoor by the tola. Independent shops and online marketplaces sell designer bottles below list without saying where they came from. MOJ sells its own fragrances, 250 of them from AED 26, through ten stores in five emirates and this site. This guide says what each is for, what "authorised" means and how to check a bottle before you pay.

  • For designer perfume at a guaranteed origin: Faces, Bloomingdale's, Sephora and Ounass, or the brand's own boutique; Dubai Mall has the largest cluster of boutiques in the country.
  • For oud oil, attar and bakhoor: the perfume souk in Deira, which is the only place on this list where bargaining is expected.
  • A designer bottle priced far below Faces or Ounass is either grey-market stock or a fake; the batch code on box and bottle must match and the price is the first warning.
  • For a 30 ml before you commit: MOJ, where every fragrance has a tester in all ten stores, and the 30 ml starts at AED 26.
  • MOJ online: free delivery over AED 200, AED 10 under, standard three to five business days, cash on delivery, ten-day returns on sealed bottles.

What you are actually choosing between

Not shops, but guarantees. Every perfume shop in the UAE sits somewhere on a line between "we can prove where this bottle came from" and "we cannot", and the price you pay is mostly the price of that proof. An authorised retailer buys from the brand or its licensed distributor, sells at the price the brand sets and will take the bottle back if it is wrong. A grey-market seller buys the same bottle somewhere else, often a bottle that is perfectly real, sometimes one that is not, and sells it for less because no one upstream is standing behind it. A counterfeiter sells a copy of the bottle. The three look identical on a shelf in Deira, which is why this guide is organised by where you are standing rather than by what you want to smell.

One thing to separate from the start: MOJ is none of the above. We do not sell designer stock and we do not sell copies of designer bottles. We make our own fragrances, some original and some inspired by a designer scent, under our own name in our own bottle, and sell them through our own stores and this site. The question of whether a MOJ bottle is "original" has a short answer, it is an original MOJ, and our explainer on what inspired perfumes are has the long one.

1. Department-store counters: Faces, Bloomingdale's, Sephora, Ounass

The safe default for a designer bottle. Faces, Bloomingdale's at Dubai Mall and Sephora run authorised counters for the mainstream designer lines and a growing share of niche; Ounass does the same online with delivery across the UAE. All four sell at list price, which is the price the brand's distributor sets for this market, and all four print that price on the product page, which is why they are the only sources we quote in our brand guides. The receipt from any of them is the proof of origin a brand will honour. What they do not carry is the exclusives: Guerlain's L'Art et la Matiere, Bvlgari's Le Gemme and most of the oud lines the big houses make for the Gulf are sold through the brand's own channels, which is the next entry.

2. Brand boutiques: Dubai Mall first

The place for the bottle the counter does not have. Dubai Mall has the largest cluster of fragrance boutiques in the country, Guerlain on Fashion Avenue since October 2023, Bvlgari on the ground floor, Dior, Chanel, Tom Ford and Louis Vuitton among the rest, and Mall of the Emirates has a second tier. A boutique carries the whole house, including the Middle East exclusives and the refill services, at list price, and its staff will decant a sample if you ask. The trade-off is that a boutique sells one house; if you want to smell three brands side by side, that is a counter.

3. Dubai Duty Free

The same authorised bottles, airside, with no VAT. Dubai Duty Free is the airport's own retailer and one of the largest perfume sellers in the region; its prices sit at or a little under mall list for the mainstream lines, and it is the one place where buying a 100 ml of a designer fragrance makes clear financial sense, because you are paying list minus tax. The limits are obvious: you need a boarding pass, the range is the mainstream lines rather than the exclusives, and you cannot return it from abroad. The searches for "Dubai duty free perfume" run at about 590 a month, almost all from people about to fly.

4. The perfume souk in Deira

The one place on this list for oil rather than spray. The perfume souk sits in Deira beside the gold and spice souks, a few streets of small shops selling oud oil, attar, musk oil, rose oil and bakhoor, mostly in Arabic blends with no brand on the bottle. Oil is sold by the tola, about 12 ml, bakhoor by the box and the price is whatever you agree; bargaining is expected here and nowhere else in this guide. It is also where the city's best bakhoor is sold loose, and the subject of our guide to the best bakhoor in Dubai. Two cautions. Designer bottles sold in the souk are grey market or worse, so buy oil there and bottles elsewhere; and oud oil quality varies by a factor of a hundred, so smell it on skin, wait ten minutes and never buy from the first shop.

5. Independent shops and marketplaces

Where "perfume shop near me" usually lands, and where the care is needed. Deira, Karama, Satwa and the Sharjah industrial areas are full of small perfume shops selling designer bottles at well under Faces, and noon and Amazon list thousands more from third-party sellers. Most of what they sell is real: grey-market bottles bought from distributors in other regions, tester bottles, end-of-line stock. Some is not. The seller rarely says which, and the brand will not honour a receipt from either. We do not name these shops in our guides and we do not quote their prices, because a price with no stated origin is not a price. MOJ's own fragrances are sold on noon and Amazon as well as here; orders placed there are covered by the marketplace's returns policy rather than ours.

How to tell a real designer bottle from a fake

Four checks, in the order that catches most fakes. Price first: a current designer fragrance at half of the Faces price is not a bargain, it is a question. Batch code second: every designer bottle carries a code printed or etched on the base of the bottle and on the box, and the two must match; a missing, smudged or mismatched code ends the conversation. Packaging third: the cellophane on a real box is tight with a single clean seam, the box is heavy card with crisp print, and the cap sits flush. Juice last: fakes are usually paler or darker than the real thing and the opening is often close while the drydown is wrong, which you only learn after wearing it. None of this applies to a MOJ bottle, which is an original in its own packaging, but it is exactly why we print prices from authorised sources only in our guides.

6. MOJ: ten stores, five emirates, every fragrance on test

The sixth kind of shop is the one that makes its own perfume. MOJ has ten stores across Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, open ten in the morning to midnight every day, with a tester for every one of the 250 fragrances on the shelf. That is the practical difference from a counter: you can spray twenty readings of twenty designer scents on blotters in one visit, and the cheapest bottle is AED 26. Four of the stores are in Dubai, two in Deira, which answers most of the "perfume shop in Deira" and "perfume shop in Karama" searches with the same address list.

Buying from MOJ online

The site carries the same 250 fragrances as the stores, each with the pyramid printed and the inspiration named. Delivery across the UAE is free on orders over AED 200 and AED 10 below that; standard delivery is three to five business days, express one to two; orders placed before 2 pm are processed the same day. Payment is card, Apple Pay or cash on delivery. Sealed bottles can be returned or exchanged within ten days; a damaged or wrong order reported within 48 hours is replaced or refunded with delivery at our cost. The whole range is in our all perfumes collection, and the ten cheapest 30 ml bottles are ranked in our guide to the best affordable perfumes in Dubai.

How to buy perfume in the UAE without regret

Buy small first. The UAE market punishes the 100 ml bought blind: heat changes how a fragrance wears, and the scent you loved on a blotter at a counter in January smells different on skin in July. So test on skin, not paper, wait twenty minutes for the heart and buy the smallest size the seller offers; at a counter that is usually 30 or 50 ml, at MOJ it is 30 ml from AED 26. Buy designer bottles only where the receipt means something, buy oil only where you can smell it first, and if the price is the thing that attracted you, read the batch code before you read the label. For which scents the country actually buys, our ranking of the most popular scent in Dubai is the place to start.
