Best Rabanne Perfumes in the UAE
Article Summary: Paco Rabanne became Rabanne in June 2023, four months after the designer died, and the three fragrances that built the house's men's business, 1 Million, Invictus and Black XS, all carry the new name on the box now. Rabanne publishes only three words per pyramid, so most of what you read about these scents is other people's guesswork. Below: the perfumers behind each of the three where two or more sources agree, the flankers sorted by year so you know which 1 Million you are buying, UAE prices read from product pages at approved retailers, and MOJ versions from AED 26.
- Rabanne fragrances have been made by Puig since 1968, a year before Calandre, the first scent, which makes it one of the longest fragrance partnerships in fashion.
- 1 Million (2008) is credited to three perfumers, Christophe Raynaud, Olivier Pescheux and Michel Girard; Invictus (2013) to four, Veronique Nyberg, Anne Flipo, Olivier Polge and Dominique Ropion.
- Black XS (2005) is still sold on rabanne.com in 2026 as an online exclusive, and the house's own description of its base is black amber and an overload of patchouli.
- There is no official Rabanne UAE store. Faces and Ounass price the 100 ml 1 Million and Invictus at AED 490, and both were unavailable at every approved retailer on the day we checked.
- MOJ versions run AED 26 to 69. Black XS is available in all three sizes; 1 Million is missing its 100 ml and Invictus its 30 ml right now.
| Original | Year | UAE price | MOJ version | From (AED) |

Who makes Rabanne perfume, and why the name changed
Rabanne is a Puig house. The Barcelona group has made the fragrances since 1968, when it signed the designer a year before his first scent, Calandre, and it bought the fashion house outright in the late 1980s, so unlike Dior or Chanel there is no separate perfume company and no licence: the same group owns the dresses and the bottles. Puig listed on the stock exchange in May 2024, which is why its annual report now describes the brand, though it publishes no figures per fragrance, so any claim you read about 1 Million being the world's best-selling men's scent is a trade claim, not an audited one.
The man was Francisco Rabaneda Cuervo, born in the Basque Country in February 1934, who dressed the 1960s in metal and plastic and died at home in Brittany on 3 February 2023, aged 88. On 28 June 2023, the eve of the house's sixtieth anniversary, Puig announced that Paco Rabanne would be styled simply Rabanne across fashion and beauty, with the new packaging reaching travel retail that August and the rest of the world over the following year. Julien Dossena, creative director of the fashion line since 2013, kept the job through the change. If your bottle says Paco Rabanne it is older stock, not a fake, and the liquid is the same.
How to read a Rabanne pyramid
The house publishes three words per fragrance and nothing more. For 1 Million it is blood mandarin, woody cinnamon, leathery amber. For Invictus it is grapefruit, marine accord, guaiac wood. For Black XS it is Calabrian lemon and kalamansi, a praline and cinnamon accord, then black amber and an overload of patchouli. Every longer list, including the ones on our own product pages, is a reading by someone who smelled the fragrance and wrote down what they found, and the readings are consistent enough across sources to be useful, but they are not the brand's.
The other thing to know is that each of the three is now a family. 1 Million has at least eight versions on sale, Invictus has eight, and a counter will often have the Parfum or the Elixir on display rather than the original eau de toilette. The MOJ versions below are built on the originals, so if you are comparing at a counter, ask for the eau de toilette by name. The flankers are sorted by year under each one.
The labels on those flankers mean something specific at Rabanne. Eau de toilette is the original strength and the one the three originals were composed at. Parfum is a denser, sweeter rework of the same idea rather than the same liquid at a higher dose, and the Elixir and Victory Elixir sit above that again, marketed as parfum intense. So a man who loved 1 Million in 2010 and buys 1 Million Elixir today is buying a different fragrance that shares a bottle shape and a mandarin opening, not a stronger version of what he remembers. The same goes for Invictus Parfum against the 2013 eau de toilette.
The three, with the MOJ versions
1. 1 Million
The gold bar. Launched in 2008 as an eau de toilette and credited to three perfumers, Christophe Raynaud, Olivier Pescheux and Michel Girard, it is the scent that turned a couture house with one famous perfume into a fragrance business. The house's three words are blood mandarin, woody cinnamon and leathery amber, and the common reading adds grapefruit and mint to the opening, rose to the cinnamon heart, and leather and Indian patchouli to the amber base. It is loud, sweet and spicy, and it has been copied so often that the shape of it is now a category of its own. The flankers, with the years two or more sources agree on: Prive in 2016, Lucky in 2018, Parfum in 2020, Elixir in 2022, then Royal and Golden Oud around 2023. Our 1 Million follows the common reading of the 2008 original. The 30 ml and 50 ml are available; the 100 ml is not at the moment.
- Top: Blood Mandarin, Grapefruit, Mint
- Heart: Cinnamon, Spicy Notes, Rose
- Base: Amber, Leather, Woody Notes, Indian Patchouli
2. Invictus
The trophy. Invictus was shown in Paris in June 2013 and went on sale in travel retail that July, in a bottle shaped like a cup and designed by Cedric Ragot. It took four perfumers: Veronique Nyberg, Anne Flipo, Olivier Polge and Dominique Ropion, which the house lists in full and most databases do not. The three official words are grapefruit, marine accord and guaiac wood; the common reading opens with sea notes, grapefruit and mandarin, puts bay leaf and jasmine in the heart, and finishes on ambergris, guaiac wood, oakmoss and patchouli. It is the fresh one of the three, built for a hot climate, and it is the one we would hand to a man who finds 1 Million too sweet. The family: Aqua in 2016, Legend in 2019, Victory in 2021, Victory Elixir in 2023, with Intense, Platinum, Parfum and Victory Absolu in between and a new Elixir on the house's site this year. Our Invictus follows the common reading of the 2013 eau de toilette. The 50 ml and 100 ml are available; the 30 ml is not at the moment.
- Top: Sea Notes, Grapefruit, Mandarin Orange
- Heart: Bay Leaf, Jasmine
- Base: Ambergris, Guaiac Wood, Oakmoss, Patchouli
3. Black XS
The oldest of the three and the one the house itself seems least sure what to do with: Black XS launched in 2005, got a new bottle in 2018, and in 2026 sits on rabanne.com as an online exclusive rather than on counters. The house does not credit a perfumer on its page, but Osmoz, Basenotes and Fragrantica all name Olivier Cresp of Firmenich, with Rosendo Mateu as co-author in two of the three, which is enough to print. The official description is Calabrian lemon and kalamansi, a praline and cinnamon accord, then black amber and an overload of patchouli; the common reading adds sage to the opening, tolu balsam and black cardamom to the heart, and Brazilian rosewood to the base. It is a sweet, dark, rock-and-roll scent for nights out, and because it is so lightly distributed now, our version is one of the few ways to try the profile without ordering from abroad. Faces lists the 100 ml at AED 385 but had none to sell when we checked, and the page copy on that listing describes Pure XS instead, so read the bottle, not the blurb. All three MOJ sizes are available.
- Top: Lemon, Sage
- Heart: Praline, Cinnamon, Tolu Balsam, Black Cardamom
- Base: Patchouli, Brazilian Rosewood, Black Amber
What Rabanne costs in the UAE
Rabanne runs no UAE storefront; rabanne.com sells to the United States, the United Kingdom and a worldwide site, and the Faces page titled Rabanne UAE Online Store is a retailer page, not the brand's. So the prices are the retailers'. On product pages at Faces and Ounass the 1 Million eau de toilette is AED 310 for 50 ml and AED 490 for 100 ml, Invictus is AED 355 to 365 for 50 ml and AED 490 for 100 ml, and Black XS is AED 385 for 100 ml. On the day we checked, every one of those listings was unavailable at both retailers; the only 100 ml Invictus showing as available among approved retailers was at Bloomingdale's, also at AED 490. The marketplaces that come up first when you search for a Rabanne price in the UAE sell at 30 to 50 per cent less, claim no authorisation from Puig, and we do not quote them.
Against that, the MOJ versions are AED 26 to 32 for 30 ml and AED 69 for 100 ml, roughly a seventh of the original per ml, and they sit with the rest of our designer inspired perfumes. Two of them are also sold paired: 1 Million with Eros, and Invictus with Afternoon Swim, in the layering sets, which is the cheaper way to own both halves of a day and night routine.
The Rabanne fragrances you will not find here
Everything for women. We carry no Lady Million, no Olympea and no Fame, and for men no Phantom, no Pure XS and none of the flankers, so if you came for the Elixir or the Victory you will need a counter. Of the three we do carry, the gap is in sizes rather than scents: the 1 Million 100 ml and the Invictus 30 ml are the two to ask us about. For other houses on the same shelf, 1 Million and Black XS are both ranked in our guide to the best patchouli perfumes, because both are built on the leaf, and Invictus and 1 Million sit in our summer perfumes for men.
How to choose between them
If you want the one everybody recognises, 1 Million. If you want fresh and sporty for a Gulf summer, Invictus. If you want sweet and dark for nights out, Black XS. If you are buying a gift for a man under thirty and know nothing else about him, 1 Million is the safe answer and Invictus the safer one if he goes to the gym.
On size, 30 ml first on Black XS, because praline is a taste; 50 ml on the other two. 1 Million and Black XS are winter and evening scents in this climate, two sprays from May to September and four in the cooler months; Invictus is the one to wear at noon in July. Frequently Asked Questions
By UAE search demand, 1 Million, and it is not close: across its spellings it draws about 3,700 searches a month against 1,300 for Invictus and 260 for Black XS. 1 Million launched in 2008 as an eau de toilette credited to Christophe Raynaud, Olivier Pescheux and Michel Girard, on blood mandarin, woody cinnamon and leathery amber in the house's own words. Invictus, from 2013, is the fresh choice for a Gulf summer, and Black XS, from 2005, the sweet dark one for nights out. MOJ versions of all three are sold in the UAE from AED 26.
Yes. Puig announced on 28 June 2023, the eve of the house's sixtieth anniversary and four months after the designer died, that Paco Rabanne would be styled simply Rabanne across fashion and fragrance. New packaging reached travel retail in August 2023 and the rest of the world over the following year. A bottle that still says Paco Rabanne is older stock, not a fake, and the liquid inside 1 Million, Invictus or Black XS did not change with the name.
On product pages at Faces and Ounass the 1 Million eau de toilette is AED 310 for 50 ml and AED 490 for 100 ml, though both retailers showed it as unavailable on the day we checked. Rabanne has no official UAE online store, so those retailer figures are the reference. Marketplaces that come up first in a UAE search list it for 30 to 50 per cent less and claim no authorisation from Puig. MOJ's 1 Million is AED 26 for 30 ml and AED 49 for 50 ml.
Puig, the Barcelona group that has produced the house's fragrances since 1968, a year before Calandre, the first scent, and that bought the fashion house in the late 1980s. There is no licence and no separate perfume company. The individual fragrances are composed by perfumers at the big fragrance houses: 1 Million by Christophe Raynaud, Olivier Pescheux and Michel Girard; Invictus by Veronique Nyberg, Anne Flipo, Olivier Polge and Dominique Ropion; and Black XS, which Rabanne does not credit itself, is attributed by Osmoz, Basenotes and Fragrantica to Olivier Cresp of Firmenich.
No, but it is hard to find. Black XS launched in 2005, received a new bottle in 2018, and in 2026 is listed on rabanne.com as an online exclusive rather than sold on counters. In the UAE, Faces lists the 100 ml at AED 385 but had none available when we checked. The house describes it as Calabrian lemon and kalamansi, a praline and cinnamon accord, then black amber and an overload of patchouli. MOJ's interpretation of Black XS is available in all three sizes from AED 32.
