Choosing a bakhoor

Richer oud heavy bakhoor suits large rooms and occasions where you want the scent to greet guests at the door. Softer, sweeter blends with amber, rose or vanilla work better for daily burning in apartments and smaller villas where heavy smoke lingers. If you are new to burning bakhoor, start with a lighter blend and shorter burns, then scale up once you know how your space holds scent.

How to use it

Traditional method: light a charcoal disc, wait until it grays over, place a piece of bakhoor on top and let it smolder. Electric burners skip the charcoal and give a cleaner, more controlled release, which most apartment residents prefer. Either way, pass garments briefly through the smoke the way it is done before Eid prayers and special occasions, and air the room afterward.
